On May 9, 2013, our Founders David Katz and Shaun Frankson, recognized that rather than seeing plastic as waste, we need a way to reveal its inherent value. They then created Plastic Bank to stop ocean plastic and help alleviate poverty by providing an opportunity for the world to collect and exchange plastic as a currency.

Over the last 7 years, we have:

• stopped over 11 million kilograms of ocean-bound plastic – the equivalent of 550 million plastic bottles
• activated over 300 branches across Southeast Asia, Latin America and Africa
• offered additional income and life-improving benefits to over 19,000 collection community members
